Who We Are
VeloKompass started as a simple idea: Germany is one of Europe’s great cycling nations, yet clear English-language guides about bike types, German traffic rules and famous cycle routes are surprisingly hard to find in one place.
We are everyday cyclists – commuters, weekend tourers and hobby racers – based at Myslowitzer Str. 45 in Berlin. We write the way we wish someone had explained things to us when we first chose a bike, planned a tour or learned the StVO rules.
Everything on this site is researched, written and edited by our small Berlin team. We update guides when laws, infrastructure or technology change, and we welcome corrections from readers.
What We Stand For
Three principles guide every page we publish.
Independence
We are not a bike shop and we do not sell products or services. We accept no sponsorships from manufacturers and receive no commission for anything we describe. Our only product is useful information.
Accuracy
We check facts against official sources – German traffic law (StVO/StVZO), federation publications, federal cycling plans and industry statistics – and we correct mistakes promptly when readers point them out.
Accessibility
Cycling should be for everyone. We write for beginners without talking down to them, avoid unnecessary jargon and explain German terms whenever they matter for understanding the topic.
